August 2018 - September 2018: Enemy/Level Design

This is a top down two player puzzle game where players team up to complete puzzles and avoid enemies to complete the levels. The ghost has a mechanic where it can go through walls and rotate rooms so that the player can go into them. The player character has to change colors by interacting with color coded orbs to get through different color coded doorways. The two must work together to avoid enemies and complete these puzzles to complete the game.

Gameplay:

What went well:

Our team consisted of 6 individuals randomly picked by the teacher. Even though it was random, I knew a lot of my teammates and we all came up with a GDD pretty quickly. After a quick stand up we all settled into our roles. This a long with some communication throughout resulted in a pretty solid month of development. We help stand ups a couple of times a week to go over what we went over, and what we were playing on implemented. This really sped up the development process as well.

What went wrong:

Although most of our team was working well within our roles, we had one team member who wasn't doing much. We had to pick up the slack for this person and it definitely hurt the project. I think that if we communicated with this person more about what they could have been doing, then we could've had an even better project than we came up with.

What I did/learned

I designed 3 levels revolving around the rotating room and door mechanics. I also made some puzzles  I also designed the simple enemy movements as well. The enemies move back and forth based on nav points. If the enemy hits the player, then they will reset back to the beginning of that level.

I learned that even if one single individual doesn't pull there weight, then the project can suffer. It is important to make sure everybody is doing at least one thing. In terms of technicality, I learned how to make simple enemy movement with way points.
